2nd. Amersham Common Scouts
Hello. I am ET and I‘ve just started Scouts.
I‘ve just done probably one of the most challenging overnight hikes in scouts. We did the Quest in teams, our patrols. I was with CC, HC and EB.
We started checking in at 2.30pm. We got checked in and then watched The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. The theme for the Quest this year was The Chronicles of Narnia. We got word searches, anagrams, puzzles and lots of things to keep us occupied. Then we had our briefing of what we had to do. We got our letters and drove of to start the Quest.
We started at 3.30pm. My group started with a challenge. After the challenge we walked to the next base, did a challenge, walked to the next
base and so on. The challenges got harder as we went on. We had to do a
First aid challenge, getting across a patch of grass without touching it,
Lifting logs over wires and it was great fun.
We did about 5 bases before it got dark then we had to walk to the rest of the 11 bases before midnight. I did about 10 bases before I dropped out because I had a stomach bug. I got picked up by a mini bus and taken back to the scout hall.
A few days later I got and e-mail saying that my team Kestrels came 23rd out of around 70 teams. I think next year I will try to do the whole Quest.

For me the Quest was a fun but muddy experience and resulted in some sore feet.
As we got ready to go the tension mounted but everyone relaxed as we started the walk. Our team was very determined and, as the map-reader, I felt a bit under pressure but I only led us wrong once and then even the shadow thought I was right.
The tasks were fun and our team came up with some unusual ideas for some of the challenges. When we were walking we passed another group, about half way round the course, we heard of the bacon butty challenge. This got our hopes up and we even ran half way, so you can imagine how downhearted we were when the queue was so long. In the end we decided it was better to gain the lead and skip the challenge so with our stomach grumbling we trudged on.
In the end the best bit of the whole walk was taking off our boots and getting in the car knowing we had finished!
