Leaders Notes

Each Team requires:

To support The Quest, an annual event that attracts an entry in excess of two hundred Scouts and Guides, help is required in the following areas:

Base Managers

These brave people are responsible for a base on the night. This involves not only arranging the setting up, equipment, running and staffing but also ensuring the base requirements given them by the organisers are developed into a workable solution.
The base manager is also responsible for the scoring and ensuring that the scores get back to the organizers at HQ IMMEDIATELY after the base closes.
They will be required to attend a briefing held on an evening during the week preceding the event.
Note that Bases are NOT required to provide food and drink for the teams. If they choose to do so it is entirely their decision (and expense!). Teams have been strongly advised to bring sufficient food and drink.

Base Helpers

Support and assist the Base Manager in the running of the base. Will suit people with warm coats. Fire lighting (where permitted), supper-cooking, partying abilities and a sense of humour helpful.

Shadows

The role of the shadow is to accompany teams around the course, following a couple of paces behind.
Whilst they must not assume or usurp the role of the Team Leader, there may be times when they will need to recover the Team's position and navigate themselves for a time.
Map reading skills are therefore essential. Other useful qualities are the ability to motivate tired, depressed youngsters in the cold and wet. A supply of chocolate might assist you. You must be suitably equipped.

Shadows are asked to complete the pre-walk being held on the weekend before the event.
For latest information use CONTACT US to confirm start point and time.
If Shadows cannot pre-walk the route, they MUST get clearance from the "Hike Organiser" or "Base Organiser" that they are still OK to be Shadows.
If you are really stuck for a Shadow, let us know; we do sometimes have a few spare.

Check-in

People are required for admin, kit check, activities.

Catering

Feeding not the five thousand, but around two hundred and fifty.

Cleaning

A cleaning crew is needed to clean the HQ premises at 7.30am on the Sunday morning in readiness for the next user.
Any help that you can provide will be welcome and enable us to maintain the high standards of this Event.

All adults must be cleared by their Group according to Scout Association Rules.
